Wait, Who? Celebrities Dish on Getting Mistaken for Other Stars (omg!)
Most of us assume that being famous means people will recognize you. According to some celebs, the fact that people recognize you still doesn't mean they have any clue who you actually are. Whether they laughed off the mistake or got annoyed, a number of celebs have shared their stories of being mistaken for other stars. Here are some memorable Tinseltown tales of mistaken identity.
Earlier this month, "Hunger Games" actress Elizabeth Banks talked to "Chelsea Lately" host Chelsea Handler about being mistaken for...Chelsea Handler. The easy-going Banks said she was sitting in Toronto when a man asked for her autograph and complemented her on her book, My Horizontal Life. Realizing he'd mistaken her for Handler, Banks said, "I couldn't ruin it for him! I was like, 'It's nice to meet you.' I was just hanging out, being Chelsea, drinking my vodka and having a good time. He couldn't have been happier."
Even "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale isn't safe from obsessed Justin Bieber fans. In April, Hale tweeted, "Someone was seriously convinced I was Selena Gomez today and tried to take my phone because they wanted to call Justin Bieber. Ohh life." For a star, being mistaken for someone else has to be a little insulting, but being noticed only because you were mistaken for Bieber's girlfriend adds insult to injury.
Actor Luke Evans says that constantly being mistaken for his "Three Musketeers" costar Orlando Bloom got a little annoying. The Welsh "Clash of the Titans" star says, "I'm working with Orlando right now and if he's not on set, the screaming crazy girl fans that surround our locations always think I am Orlando. No one ever thinks it's me; they think it's Orlando Bloom." To be fair, the British actors do look a lot alike!
Katy Perry's star is most definitely on the rise, but actress Zooey Deschanel is most definitely not a fan. When asked about being mistaken for Perry, Deschanel said, "It's a little bit annoying, to be totally blunt. The only similarity that we have is that we look a little bit alike...I'm happy that she's famous enough now that she's not going out and being mistaken for me." Um, we're pretty sure it's the other way around!
"Transformers" star Josh Duhamel laughed when asked which stars he gets mistaken for. Duhamel says he can understand being mistaken for "I Am Number Four" and "Justified" star Timothy Olyphant, which he says happens often. "Jackass" star Johnny Knoxville is another actor who Duhamel says he' sometimes identified as. Lastly, Josh says he's "most proud" of being mistaken for "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, who Duhamel says he resembles more closely when wearing a baseball cap. We love a man who's secure enough to not feel threatened by a small case of mistaken identity.
We don't see the resemblance, but apparently other people do! "Damages" star Glenn Close says she was so often mistaken for Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep that she was nervous about co-starring with her! When the two appeared together in the film "Evening," Close said that Streep confessed that she'd also been mistaken for Close. According to Glenn, Meryl told her that a store in Los Angeles once gave her free merchandise and then complimented her on her work...in "Fatal Attraction." Oops?
